This may seem like a simple piece of weight loss advice, but sometimes we can unconsciously add a lot of calories to our daily total without even realizing it. One of the easiest ways you can reduce your daily caloric intake is to cut out consuming extra liquid calories. This could be in the form of fruit juice, energy drinks, soda or beer. For example, depending on your order, a Starbucks drink can add anywhere from 230 to 510 extra calories from one drink. That’s the caloric intake for a sensible meal. Just a small can of soda can add 140 calories, now just imagine how many calories are in a super size helping. How about a can of beer? 150 or so calories. You know those “healthy” bottles of juice? They can add an extra 270 calories to your day. Now think of this…what if you had a drink with each meal? Let’s say a juice for breakfast, afternoon coffee pick me up and one cocktail with dinner? That drink menu alone can easily tack on an additional 650-930 calories to your meal plan, and you haven’t even taken a bite of food yet.
So what is the solution you may ask? The simple answer is water. In fact, drink lots of water everyday. Drinking water is essential for your health and cannot be understated. It can help prevent headaches, regulate hormones, aid weight loss, avoid kidney stones/infections, help with digestive health and attributes to amazing looking skin, to name just a few. Couple that with the fact it is zero calories and you have a win win. If you want to add some healthy zero calorie alternatives to spice things up, try sparkling water infused with fresh fruit. There is a big variety of teas to choose from such as herbal, green or black tea.
After all is said, it makes sense to watch the calories you drink.
