Happy, Healthy You – Stop and Smell the Flowers


I don’t think we realize how much technology and information comes at us each day.  From time to time, I absolutely need to get away from the everyday rat race (and my phone). I love to go and explore nature, which always seems to captivate and calm me at the same time. When I stop and smell the flowers, it seems to instantly clear my head of all the clutter. I am literally able to pause and reset. Studies have proven that time in nature can have a direct correlation to a healthier mind, body and soul. If you’re like me, even a long drive can give you the time and clarity you need. I fondly remember the different times I cranked up the stereo and just drove. It helped me regroup, clear my mind, reflect and come up with an effective game plan for the next chapter of my life. It felt so good to just take a moment to breathe!

Life can get so hectic for all us that it can do wonders to pause and reset. Try to make time, to buy out the time, for yourself. Think of doing it for your mental health and sanity, in this insane world. Scout out little pieces of nature wherever you live and spend some quiet, reflective time enjoying them. Whether it’s going to the mountains, hiking through the desert, or walking in a beautiful park; or maybe taking a brief moment to watch the butterflies or listen to the birds happily chirp.  For me personally, I love to go anywhere I can find a body of water. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a lazy creek, flowing river or tranquil lake. I love water! Just the look and sound of it does something to my soul. When I take the time to unplug from technology, even for a couple hours, I walk away feeling like I had visited an expensive day spa to be pampered. I know these peaceful moments enable me to be an even better mom, and friend. Nature can reconnect our soul, reestablishing harmony to our existence.  Taking time to breathe and relax, without anything in the way or in front of you, is priceless. You can’t buy or find that kind of therapy in any office. Just remember, stop and smell the flowers.
