Happy, Healthy Kitchen – Tasty Turkey Chili


I wanted to share my chili recipe that I created last fall. I made it last night for a dinner party and my friends raved about it. Like really raved. They went back for seconds and even thirds and said it could win a chili cook-off. I am not sure if I would go that far, it could have been the posh Malbec wine talking. The one thing I do know and love about this recipe is that it tastes full of flavor the day you make it. Some recipes, especially chili, usually taste better the next day after the flavors have melded. When I made it this time, I used organic ground turkey but originally I made it with soy chorizo from Trader Joe’s. In my opinion, they are both great. It is an easy, fast way to get a cozy, hot meal on the table for your family. And it fits well into most weight loss programs. Win win.


2 tablespoon olive oil

One large white onion, diced

One large red bell pepper, diced small

16 oz. organic Trader Joes (TJ’s) ground turkey

4 cloves garlic, minced (I used approx 2 t. garlic paste)

One 15.5 oz can (TJ’s) kidney beans, liquid drained off top

One 15.5 oz can (TJ’s) black beans, liquid drained off top

One 15.5 oz can(TJ’s) pinto beans, liquid drained off top

Two 14.5 oz cans(TJ’s) fire roasted tomatoes

One 4 oz. can (TJ’s) fire roasted green chilis

1 tablespoon paprika and cumin

1 1/2 tablespoon taco seasoning (and/or chili powder)

1 tsp garlic powder, onion powder and salt

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

1 1/2 tsp agave (or honey)

1 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar


Saute onions and red pepper in olive oil until onion is completely translucent. Add ground turkey, and cook well. Add in garlic and cook 2 min. Add rest of ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer on low, stirring occasionally. Ready to serve as soon as its hot. Garnish with sour cream and shredded cheese.
