Happy, Healthy Body – Do Something You Love

 

If this quarantine has messed up your routine or mojo, you are not alone. It seems a lot of us are struggling in different areas of our lives. Your relationships, work, parenting and even mental health might be suffering as a result of trying to adjust to your new normal.

On top of all of that, for me personally, reaching my weight loss and fitness goals have been especially challenging. Can you relate? A couple of months back I was doing a good job of hitting my 10,000 steps a day goal. Unfortunately, that didn’t last. Maybe it wasn’t a realistic goal with all that was going on. In my heart, I still desperately wanted to lovingly care for my health and move my body. So I decided I absolutely had to go back to the basics. It’s not easy starting at square one. But honestly, what choice do you have? I knew if I kept my game plan really simple, it would not overwhelm me as I felt I was starting over. Additionally, my desire is to stay motivated, so I could continue my healthy habits for the long term.

I decided to do two things. Number 1. Start small. I’ve used this mental tactic before and it really does seem to work; probably because I’m a perfectionist. For instance, I tell myself to start with an easy ten minute workout. Who can’t fit in ten minutes? My goal is to ease back into moving my body. And when I do start my 10 minute workout, I notice the benefits physically and emotionally immediately. The exciting thing is that 9 times out of 10, I feel SO good that I continue for at least another twenty minutes. Number 2. Do something I love to do. For me personally this usually boils down to one of two things. Either I take a walk in nature or I dance like no one is watching. Both activities make my heart sing. Fitness experts will tell you that in order to make exercise a regular part of your everyday life…Do something you love!
