Happy, Healthy Body – Dry Skin Brushing

I first heard about the benefits of dry skin brushing from Dr. Schulze when I was doing a number of his detox programs for my colon, liver, gallbladder, blood, kidneys and bladder. I wanted to learn more and did research on all the many health benefits from brushing your skin. Our skin, the largest organ in the human body, is an organ of elimination. At least one third of our body’s toxins are excreted through the skin. Dry brushing helps to unclog pores and excrete toxins that become trapped in or under the skin. This makes dry skin brushing a powerful detoxification aid.

The number one benefit I found is stimulation of the lymphatic system. Our lymphatic system is responsible for eliminating our cellular waste products, which drain from the tissues into the blood. Dry skin brushing helps our lymphatic system to release built up toxins in our body. Dry skin brushing also increases circulation in our bodies which assists with the elimination of metabolic waste. This also makes it very invigorating to the body as it increases blood flow to all these areas. I have seen firsthand a huge benefit to the appearance and feel of my skin. Dry skin brushing exfoliates the skin and removes dead, dry skin which allows it to breath. When I make brushing my skin a part of my regular skincare routine, I do not need to add extra oils or lotions to my skin. It sloughs off the dead skin cells leaving soft, silky skin on my entire body. I also love to take a smaller, softer brush into the shower and exfoliate my face and neck area, I notice this helps unclog the pores on my face. And makes my nightly essential oil face serum absorb into my skin more effectively. According to MindBodyGreen.com, dry brushing helps to reduce cellulite. They also say, “cellulite is simply toxic materials that have accumulated in your body’s fat cells and are trapped, unable to be eliminated from the body. Forget lipo, dry skin brushing helps to break down any trapped toxins from within the body and help your body eliminate them through its usual elimination channels”.

They are many videos on YouTube or articles on the internet that teach you how to dry skin brush properly. I usually start vigorously brushing the soles of my feet and work up my legs. All of my brush strokes are upwards towards my heart. I have bought a couple of brushes over the years from health food stores for about ten dollars each. However, I heard someone say that you can get a brush or loofah for as little as a one dollar. I strongly feel dry skin brushing is well worth the investment of time and money. I sincerely hope you too add dry skin brushing to your self care routine and enjoy it as much as I do.
